Any Good Ideas For Japanese Kosher Foods?

November 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hey, for my RS (religious studies, religous education watever you want to call it) I need to design and make 2 Jewish menus. I have chosen to do a Japanese Jewish Restaurant but I’m having a bit of trouble finding some Japanese Kosher Foods.

The first menu needs to consist of Meat but no dairy

The second menu needs to consist of dairy but not meat

I need to stick to ALL the kosher rules as well (split hooves etc)
All I’m asking is that you could list some Japanese kosher foods. Thanks in advance

In general, I would think pretty much every Japanese dish is kosher. Milk is not traditionally used in Asia. There are Americanized dishes with cheese, like some sushi rolls. But would sushi count as meat?

I think the first menu can be pretty much every Japanese food: teriyaki chicken, chicken tempura, vegetable tempura, soup. If raw fish is allowed then you can have sushi. If not, there are some sushi rolls with cooked fish and/or roe which should be acceptable.

The second menu could consist of green tea ice cream, which isn’t even Japanese but it is served at restaurants in America.

The Japanese diet is based mainly on seafood and seaweed. It’s very different from the one ancient Jews were eating in the Middle East.

Don’t forget that all Kosher food has to be blessed by a Rabbi in the preparation.
