My baby is 7-1/2 months old. We started her on solids at about 6 months. She really likes her solids and eats well. But the problem is since last few weeks she doesn’t like breast milk any more. She hardly nurses (except when she’s sleeping) and refuses to take the bottle from us. The only person she takes the bottle from is her day care lady. If I try to feed her when she’s really hungry, she drinks about one oz and then refuses to take any more. Same is the story with feeding her formula. I’m concerned that she may not be getting enough milk. I haven’t tried milk in a sippy cup because she’s not used to the sippy cup yet. She is otherwise healthy and gaining good weight. Appreciate suggestions on how I can get her to drink milk.

Cut back on the solid foods and see if she increases her breast milk intake. She needs to be getting all of her nutrition from breast milk at this age, since solids are only for practice at this age and cannot provide the nutrition she needs. So cut down on the solids and offer as often as possible.

My toddler has been gung ho the whole time so I can’t speak from experience, but I know you can get a lot of good info by Googling “nursing strike.”

My baby is the same age as yours. Born mid january. And I started her on solids as well at around 6 months. There are days when she loves her solids and other days when she prefers nursing. I give her 2 sometimes 3 feedings of cereal (rice or corn) mixed with water and some applesauce/carrots etc. She may eat about 1/2-1 cup at a time some only about 1-2 tsps spoons. She also nurses at night more (wakes up a lot these nights). Does not use a sippy cup and wont take the bottle either. I just work around her needs, and pump to keep up my production if she does not nurse and mix it with her solid food. She seems healthy and gets her nutrition I think. As long as your baby is gaining weight and seems healthy, dont worry too much. Just mix the food with breast milk and nurse more often if she drinks only a little at a time. My baby likes to drink stuff from regular cups, even though a lot drips out. So you could try to feed her formula from a plastic regular cup and see if she is interested. Good luck!
