Besides meat, what can’t vegetarians eat?

October 31st, 2008 · 11 Comments

I DO NOT want to be vegan..(yet). But for a vegetarian diet, besides the obvious meats what footds shouldn’t you eat. I know jello and marshmallow have gelatin..and will it just say gelatin on the ingredients? Thanks.
Yeah…but…vegetarians also don't eat foods that an animal was killed for. ie. gelatin which is in jello and marshmallows, therefore I am asking what foods thats in. I am going to eat dairy and eggs, because I'm not vegan.

Vegetarians just can’t eat meat (including fish usually). Vegans on the other hand, can’t eat meat, dairy or anything that has to do with an animal.

Vegetarians generally don’t eat other vegetarians.

yes it will say gelatin on the ingredients
foods that contain gelatin:frosted poptarts, starbursts, gummy bears worms etc, gummy lifesavers, cirucs peanuts, candy corn, those white candy stick things that come in super hero boxes,

edit:i just remembered a few more- some yogurts, skittles, some fruit snacks, and i have also seen in in some face washes(it was neutrogena),

Besides meat, vegetarians avoid slaughter by-products, the most common of which are gelatin (yes, it will be listed as an ingredient) and rennet. (enzymes scraped from the stomach of dead veal calves, found in many cheeses)

why do you worry about stuff like this? Just eat and try to eat healthy. Why must you people constantly try to upset the order of things? If you dont want meat dont eat it, but why worry about gelitin, because it has a minute amount of animal in it, thats just goina a bit to far, and that is what is wrong with this country. Too many pasty faced liberal bleeding hearts.

depends on how much vegetarian they are.. some do still eat animal products (eggs, milk, cheese, etc.) and some are way stricter because they still see it as cruelty to the animal and part of eating the animal as if it were meat. some are just against proteins…

Try eating Seitan, you make it from gluten wheat and its the protein most vegetarians and vegans eat.
      I make sausages… totally brilliant.

Vegetarians do not eat organs, parts of organs, or products derived from parts of organs of animals.Vegetarians do not consume animal-derived products that cause the death of the source animal. They may consume stuff that is from animals that are natural products, like dairy products.

Vegans are a sub-classification of vegetarians who do not eat products derived in any way from animals; i.e. vegans do not consume dairy products. They do not consume ANY animal-derived products.

Therefore, a vegetarian might eat eggs but a vegan will not.
