Why would you want to put a sponge in your tank so he can play with it? Betta fish do not need to play, and therefore will not play with the sponge you put in. He will probably try to eat it, and therefore choke on it. You should be putting gravel, and live plants in there for him, and he will be fine on his own. If you want, you can add a “No fishing!” Sign, as a little decoration, and you could maybe have a little waterfall inside your tank, or an air pump, and an air stone, or something to that effect.

Put some gravel or decorations in the tank. Fish don’t need toys.

He doesn’t need a toy. Maybe live plants or just one pretty fake one. Depending on how big a bowl/tank you have him in. Gravel or gemstones, little tank decorations… But he’s just fine on his own swimming in circles. That’s what makes them so nice to have, they constantly swim - for the most part are very pretty, and are so easy to keep.

I guess you could put a sponge in there but I definitely wouldn’t suggest it! Try putting some decorations in there. I know most animals like bright colours. I know my friend put a snail it their(But the next morning there was a whole bunch of shell bits in there!!)I know that my betta fish liked looking at the bubbles from the filter.

i would not do it but try a ping pong ball
bettas are fine with other fish like cories tetras and lots more just stay away from coldwater fish, gouramis, fish that could eat it and livebearers
bettas dont get lonely and i dont recommend getting another fish
also if you dont already have them i suggest getting a heater and a low power filter
