Bloated female betta fish..?

September 6th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I am taking care of my sisters fish while shes on vacation. I noticed the betta looked bloated so I thought I was feeding her to much. Shes in a tank with a platti so I took her out and put her in a jar so I could watch her closely. I fasted her for a good 24 hours then gave her a few little piece of boiled, shelled peas. I am pretty sure shes not constipated because she pooped a little even before I fed her pea pieces. She is active, eating and as sassy as ever. how long will it take for the bloating to go away if she is overfed? also, her egg spot on her belly seems a little bigger then normal. What are the chances of her carrying eggs? she has never been with a male but I understand the produce eggs anyway. If it is eggs how long will it take for her to have them? Is it ok for me to put her back in the tank? she does not like the jar and I’m afraid it to much stress for her.

She ma have eggs. Do not spawn her it is expteamly hard and should only be attempted by an experianced fishkeeper!
She will never drop them unless spawned, once again, DO NOT SPAWN HER UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERT IT IS VERY HARD!

ain’t going to happen unless you have a male betta. He’s the one that take care of the newborns.

she may just be ready to breed, theres nothing to worry about if its eggs they will go away on their own, if shes bloated feed her small amounts 3 times a day with no treats along with some exersize

either way its not a problem she will be fine in the tank

She may just be full of eggs. Do NOT try to breed them because they are very hard to breed. Leave it to the professionals and don’t worry, sooner or later, she will lay the eggs by herself and eat them. I know it’s gross but it’s mother nature :) Also, when you feed them boiled peas, you should take the shell of the pea off and give her a little piece of the filling.

      Good Luck! :)
