Buying wine: do you go with a more recent year or older? ?

When buying domestic wine like Sutter Home, Ravenswood, Yellow Tail, etc. is it better to go with a more recent year or something more aged? I never know if I should pick the 2007 bottle, the 2006, 2008. etc.

On your choices it won’t matter with Sutter Home or Yellow tail. If you have an option on Ravenswood, especially the reds, take a year older.

When I pick whites I use vineyard and grape.

When picking reds I prefer an older vintage to a newer one, unless the younger vintage has a better reputation.

    Cheers
