you can use it to substitute for buttermilk as long as you add a couple dashes of white vinegar to it.

If you add a few drops of lemon juice to a cup of milk and let it stand for 5 minutes, you will have an acceptable substitute for buttermilk.

Not by itself. Put in a drop or two of lemon juice and let it sit for about 15 minutes. This adds the acid needed.

If the recipe calls for milk or buttermilk then yes. Otherwise, you’ve got other answers that are good.

If you do not have 1 cup buttermilk you can use 1 cup plain yogurt. You can use regular milk as well. I do not keep buttermilk around here but I have a recipe that calls for it. I use skim milk and my rolls still turn out fine.

You could but you would have to add 3 drops of lemon juice and let wait for 5 1/2 minutes. Then it will be even better then buttermilk! Yum!

Buttermilk is milk with no butterfat. Mixing 2% milk with some vinegar or lemon juice will lyield a result similar to buttermilk.
