Does brandy really have medicinal value?

November 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I am not exaggerating…a week ago, I was so ill with bronchitus I was sore and aching all over…could not get out of bed….I could not get to a doctor, so I took the old-time cure I had heard of as a boy…I drank a glass of brandy.
It made me feel better and erased my symptoms. I went to work the entire week with no ill effect.

Brandy (or any other alcoholic liquid) cannot cure bronchitis, and since bronchitis is a bacterial infection which takes several days to treat with antibiotics, it is unlikely that you were actually suffering from it. Alcohol has a number of medicinal effects, one of which is to relax the body and create a mild anesthetic result. You probably had something much less severe, and the relaxation and sleep you got were all that you needed.
