I’m 14 and I have been learning about global warming and that leads to a number of things like gas prices, oil, and meat packing industries. Every One vegetarian save up to 100 animals a year. So I play field hockey right now and I’ve been a semi vegetarian for a while so I get used to it, what’s the best way to make the full turn to vegetarian? and what are the best vegetarian foods you know of?

Well there is one of two ways to do this: go gradually or cold tofurkey.
Gradually: Start with taking out all red meat, all the meals that you will have red meat in eat vegetarian. Red meat is the worst for you so you will be doing your body a big favor. Then once you are used to that you take out all white meat. Then, finally, all fish. You now are a lacto-ovo vegetarian, now you must choose if you want to be lacot-ovo vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian, vegan, strict vegetarian, raw foodist, fruitatarian, or a macrobiotic. For more information on each check out this website http://vegetarian.about.com/od/vegetarianvegan101/tp/TypesofVeg.htm (P.S. know that vegan are strict vegetarian are the same thing but strict vegetarian is all about the diet but vegan is about the life style, meaning you don’t buy leather, fur etc.).
Another way to switch is to remove all meat products from all your breakfasts, in a few weeks or so remove it from all lunches then move to dinners.
Or you could remove a day per week with meat in it to full vegeatarian or vegan or whatever. Then keep removing the days til you have no meat.
Cold tofurkey: the name explains it, go overnight. That is how i became vegan, i thought i would try it gradually but i couldn’t stand eating the chicken and cow and such that i just stopped.
Important to remember: Get your nutrients and to exercise or you will run into a number of problems. http://vegetarian.about.com/od/healthnutrition/Vegetarian_Health_Nutrition_Information.htm
If you would like a site that can explain this way better try this http://www.veggie123.com/ . It is a free e-book that explains how to become vegetarian, and explains everything you need to know.
Good luck on your choice! I hoped i helped some!

I’d say, if you’ve already been experimenting with veggie food… just stop eating meat entirely. Just do it now. Right now. It’s easier than doing it slowly.

I made a straight switch to vegetarian about 20 years ago. There were not the veggie alternatives available then, so the first month was difficult, after that? Well i never dreamt of switching back. These days there are lots of alternatives to meat, although if you are concerned with environmental issues, some items might not be that great an alternative (highly processed and heavily packaged lines for example) Personally i like Quorn, its versatile, and easy to use instead of meat. If you are young and active? Then make sure you continue to get sufficient carbs, but a veggie diet is great for that, think Pasta, baked potatoes or rice dishes (veggie Chili).
And don’t let anyone tell you that a growing person needs meat! Firstly its patronising, and second it just isn’t true! You will obtain all the protein you need from a good balanced veggie diet.

I quit cold turkey, but I understand it is harder for some people. First, stop eating red meat. Second, stop eating poultry (chicken, turkey etc.). Third, stop eating seafood. It may take you a while, but if you’re really serious about this you will be able to give it up. I have not eaten meat in two years and I don’t even miss it.
