I just found out my nephew has chicken pox. He lives in MD and me in GA but my dad who also lives in MD has been down here for a week with me after having been around my nephew. My nephew's rash broke out while my dad was still down here visiting and he was definitly in close contact with him. I know it takes about 14 days for them to show up but I have never had chicken pox and have a 3 year old son and I'm 26 weeks pregnant so I really don't need a case of chicken pox.

Well, if you have chicken pox while pregnant, your baby may become immune…

I doubt you will get chicken pox.

If what you say is true, you better visit a doctor as soon as you can "right now" soon. and be more carefull of fooling around places or things you shouldn't be-YOUR PREGNANT

You left out the most important part; has your dad had chicken pox? If he has you have nothing to worry about. If he has not you may be in trouble and you should call your doctor. You should also speak to your son’s pediatrician about getting him the vaccine.

Since you were not exposed to your nephew you are perfectly safe. Your doctor probably did a varicella titer along with your initial labs. The titer shows if you are immune or not. Many people who don't think they had chicken pox actually had a mild case and are immune. If you were not immune and definitely exposed to someone with chicken pox, your doctor can give you immune globulin to prevent you from getting it. It has to be given very soon after the exposure. Sometimes when older folks, like your dad, are exposed to a person with chicken pox, they get shingles. You cannot get chicken pox from shingles.

most of the time it is harder for an older person to get them but if you are worried about your baby go to the doctors
