It takes 15 minutes, but once the water boils, you have to cover the pot and turn it down to simmer, then start the timing.

Then you will want to immediately run cold water over the egg, so it cools down as quickly as possible. This prevents the outer part of the yolk from turning greenish color.

      Perfectly Boiled Eggs

      1 dozen large eggs
      Water to cover
      Pinch salt

Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Season with a pinch of salt. Place the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cover with a lid. Allow the eggs to sit for 12 minutes. Drain and cool the eggs for 2 minutes in ice water. Drain and peel the eggs.

Note: Eggs that are a couple of weeks old or older peel easier than very fresh eggs.

Here's how to make a perfect hard boiled egg. Put the eggs in a sauce pan, fill with cold water to 1 inch above the eggs. Turn the stove on Med/High. Bring to a hard boil (that means it's bubbling hard) Turn the burner off, let the eggs sit for 20 minutes. Place the sauce pan in the sink and run cold water over them. Follow these steps exactly and they'll be perfect. You can either refrigerate and peal later or peal them in cold water right away. Happy egg eating.

Okay, I may be a chef now, but when I was a kid the only thing I made, and I was famous in my family for it, was deviled eggs. For good deviled eggs you have to have well but not overcooked boiled eggs and this is what I came up with. I use this technique to this day…
Place eggs in the pot and cover with cold water and a splash of white vinegar. Turn the heat on high and have the water boiling within 10 minutes. Let it boil for one more minute, turn off the heat and cover with a lid for 10 more minutes. Stop the eggs from cooking with cold water and peel. The vinegar helps the peeling process and you save time and energy by watching the clock a little and not overdoing it.

Hard cooked eggs should never be boiled. Put the eggs in boiler and cover with cold water. Put on burner and bring to boil. Cover the pot and turn the heat off. Leave for 15-20 minutes and you will have perfect hard cooked eggs. Drain and cover with cold water or ice to chill and peel.

this is how u get the perfect boiled egg. put eggs in pot with water. cover with lid and let boil for 10 minutes. or until the water is boiling. then turn off the water and let sit for 5 minutes, run over cold water to peel and voolah the perfect boiled egg. this way the whites arent tough and the yolk isnt green. its a perfect yellow color. also another rule of thumb is if ur not sure if ur eggs are done, take them out of the pot and spin them like u would when playing spin the bottle. if its spins fast its hard boiled. if it spins slow its soft boiled and if it doesnt spin at all its not done.

put your eggs into a pot then add cold water to cover. put over high heat until water boils. boil 5 minutes and turn off heat. let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. place pot and eggs in sink and cool with cold running water for 10 minutes. remove all water and cover pot and shake the eggs inside to break the shells to peel.
thats how ive done it in restaurants for over 22 years.
