Today is my first day on weight watchers using the points plan thing. My dad wants to make beef stew for dinner, and his beef stew is usually thick with celery, potatoes, meat, and other stuff I can't remember at the moment.
How much of this should I eat and how many points would it be, approximately?? I still have 13 points left for today, and all of my weekly allowance points.
I guess the vegetables would be around 0 or 1 points?

figuring points on something like that can get complicated. you have to disect the recipe and add all the points and then divide into servings. But you CANNOT do that kind of WWalgebra on day one!
Let's see…. the beef is easy 3 oz of most cuts is 6-7 pts for 3 oz. (that's a piece about the size of the palm on your hand) As for the veggies, carrots are free when they are raw but have to count 1 pt for 1 cup of carrots (thats a lot of carrots) The potatoes will be 1 pt for a cup of potatoes. Celery and most other veggies are free, Fill your bowl with a little bit of the meat, and potatoes and LOT of the freebies….. So for 3 oz meat, 1 cup carrots, 1 cp potatoes you are at 8-9 pts. But now think about what the gravy is made of. if he adds cream or soups or fat of some kind, you have to count that..
It gets REAL complicated, doesnt it!!! My suggestion on something like that is to just eat enough to give you a satisfied feeling, dont go back for seconds, avoid the cornbread that goes with it, and count it as 10 pts per cup. But I always try to estimate on the high side, to be safe.
It's just one day, you cant possibly fail by going over points ONE DAY. Falling is not failure, Not getting back up is failure.
Good Luck!
