How soon after when the menstrual cycle has finished is a new egg ready to go and be fertilised to the best effect of getting fertilised?

my doctor said you new egg is ready to go 12 to 16 days BEFORE your next period is due. so to find out how long after your menstrual cycle, you have to calculate out your cycle. if you normally have a 28 day cycle, then it would be 14 days after your period. but if you have a longer cylce, then it will be longer. if you have an irregular cycle, then you can’t really tell. but my doctor said it’s always 12 to 16 days before your next period is due.

its different for every woman. In some women the luteal phase (time between period ending and egg dropping) is just a few days, in some (like me) its longer. There are ways to tell when you are ovulating though, by body temperature, some women can tell because their skin changes or their nipples get sore. We had trouble conceiving because we were doing it more textbook style (listening to what the books told us) but because my cycle was longer we missed the day every time for a year! We ended up buying one of those fertility monitors (highly recommend it btw) and it worked the first time. I just have an irregular ovulation time.
