I understand that I am allowed two bottles duty free. Does anyone know how much the duty is on the remaining bottles if I declare them?

It maybe better off saving your lugague weight for other stuff, tax on alcohol is not as high as it is in the UK, can’t say the much for the USA. But you can fine good wine shops in Beijing as well..

But you know if your staying for more than 6 months in China without leaving the country you can bring in twice as much duty free.

Not much info but heres a link…

The problem with bringing wine into China right now is that you have no really viable way to do so. Tourists are prohibited still from bringing any kind of liquid onto the plane so you can’t bring wine in your carry on luggage. You really don’t want to stow the wine in your suitcase because it almost certainly will get broken — if not by the baggage handlers then perhaps when the plane reaches altitude and funny things happen with the pressure in the cargo compartment.

I recommend you save your money. China has several very drinkable red wines, the Great Wall label bottles a couple of varietals as well as a generic “dry red” that’s not bad. The most expensive is less than $15 a bottle but don’t be fooled by the low price.

Actually if you carry afew bottles of wine thru the custom. Chances are you won’t be checked by the custom officers there. So… Have a nice & sober trip!

I don’t think our wine is so bad that you need to bring more than two bottles!
