I have heard that the people in China would not recognize the "Americanized" version of chinese food, is that true? What is authentic chinese food really like?

American chinese food usually has MSG in it and is not of the same quality.

No. the Chinese people are making food to sell to Americans. They add lots of fats and sugars to the food. They don't use these much in their own country.

your dinner is still swimming in the glass tank in the restaurant until you order it
they scoop it out, put thing, fish, items in a garbage bag and take to the kitchen to prepare
more unusual varieties that I have never seen here in the States

Not even close. It's regional just like here…my freinds invite me over for Chinese New Year. Some of it is great-lobster in lemon butter…and some…the stuff the non English speaking cooks go for…is not for me…fish, boiled and then eaten with the fingers, spitting bones on the plate…

Heck no! The only comparison I can think of is that it is like the McDonald's of Chinese food. The real thing is much more exotic and most Americans would turn their nose up at it. I've had some authentic dishes like Elephant fish w/wasabi & jellyfish, steamed chicken's feet, dried squid…

actually, the Chinese restaurant in America can be operate by Chinese. however, people have different taste style at different place, the chef will change the style to suit the style of the place. So, in America you can't have the same taste on the same food.
I am a Chinese, just came to America for 1 year. The food I have in American, they not taste like in China.

There are different ingredients and not as many MSGs. It is AWESOME! WAYYY more awesome than that crap they call chinese food that they serve here in the US.

but then, think about the sanity. its very polluted in China, which makes the food preperation unsanitary.

so. its sorta up to you

Mom of 4, I hope not. Chinese food here is horrible, and all the chefs are chinese. It tastes like it has been sitting under a heat lamp. YUK

I don't think it is authentic. According to the regenttour.com website: "many of the dishes served in China may really surprise foreigners."

Not even close. You can always know good Chinese food when you see Chinese people packed in the restaurant.
