My husband and I go to church once a week, and since we started trying to conceive I have only been having bread at communion. I am now 11 weeks pregnant. I plan on asking my OB her opinion at the next check up but I wanted other women's opinions too.
Do you think it is ok for me to have wine (just a small sip) once a week, or should I keep avoiding it, just in case.
I recently noticed that another woman at church who is pregnant takes wine at communion, that is what is making me wonder if it is ok.

It's such a small amount that it probably wouldn't hurt anything, but it's really a personal choice. I'm not Catholic, but I'm assuming you have a very small portion when you do communion.

I think a sip once a week at church would be okay. I'm sure the doctor will say the same.
Congrats!
Good Luck and God Bless

A glass of red wine every now and then is perfectly ok! My OB told me to have a glass when I was stressed or nervous!

the amount of wine you actually consume during communion is barely nothing but a drop on your tongue. Im all against drinking while pregnant, BUT, you're not downing a whole glass….heck, I know when I drink at communion…its not even a whole sip!! Your baby will be fine.

its fine! you technically could have 1 glass of wine a week if you really wanted to. one sip isnt going to hurt anyone… but if you're still concerned then skip it until you have your baby, as long as you receive the host you're still fullfilling that sacrament.
congrats BTW!

It will be fine that little bit is not going to hurt the baby. I have had two kids and my OB told me that it was fine if I had a small glass of wine a week, so you will be fine. But you can call and ask you OB and they will let you know. As long as you are eating right everything will be fine. Good luck with the rest of your pgrenancy.

One sip of communion wine probably isn't going to be enough alcohol to effect anything. Plenty of doctors say that an entire glass of wine on occasion is fine.
Personally, though, I skip the wine. Even if the alcohol content is minimal, it's not worth the risk to me. In fact, I haven't taken communion wine for many years because I would rather not put myself at risk for germs from other folks (and who wants a cold when pregnant?). Years ago, the priest was the only one to drink the wine, so I think that the Host is enough for the sacrament.

Yes it is perfectly fine. I have had an anxiety disorder and my doc actually told me it was fine to have one glass when I was feeling stressed. Just to calm me down. So im sure having a few sips at church will be fine… Congrats!!

the current guidelines are still, ,one or two units - once or twice a week. So, a weekly sip is nothing to be concerned about at all.

Yeah, actually, a little wine is healthy. Just as long as you don't get drunk, wine is okay, just not too much.

The communion wine hardly has any wine in it, it's diluted with water. Plus, you only take a tiny sip, just enough to taste really. To be honest I don't take the wine, there's no obligation to receive both forms of Communion anymore. Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

First of all , I don't think the communion wine has alcohol in it….coz a lot of underage children who have received communion take both the body and blood of the the Lord. So i think you're good…….

Yes, it is perfectly fine to receive communion once a week. Wine is not bad for you during pregnancy unless you drink too much. One glass is just fine. In fact, it can be healthy. Just don't overdue it. (And just a bit about me. I'm a doula and studying to be a certified childbirth educator.)
