I use 4 oz of water with 2 scoops of formula and 1 teaspoon of formula. Is this okay, or do I have to heat up the rice cereal? The baby is 2 months and the doctor told me to give it to him in his bottle to prevent vomiting and spitting up. Thanks!

I think your doc is severely misinformed. Never put cereal in the bottle. It can cause indigestion, obesity, reflux.
Don't give rice cereal until the baby is 4 months at the earliest.
Your baby is spitting up because your are giving him formula. He's two months old, why is he not being breastfed? Formula is not equal in any means.

I wouldn't put cereal in his bottle. That's really not reccomended by pediatricians. I think you need to see a different pediatrician. How much formula are you giving him at a time? When I went from nursing to formula (I had to go back to work and was not physically able to pump) my son went through a phase where he was spitting up a lot, but it was b/c I was giving him too much. I dropped down an ounce and it solved the problem. It also may be a reaction to the formula. What formula are you giving him? My son handled Similac Advance the best, but that was his tummy.

Don't let these people freak you out. My son had the same problem. He was unable able to breastfeed due to milk allergies, but he always spit up the soy formula. My doctor also suggested a little rice cereal in the bottle. I have read negative feedback on doing this, but it was the only thing that kept his milk down. When I made my bottles I would mix the formula and warm water and then once that was well mixed I would add the rice cereal. You should not be mixing the rice cereal with anything before you add it to the bottle. You should only be adding the cereal flakes and they will absorb the formula. Good luck!

Don't you just HATE when people answer your qestion when they have NO CLUE what they are talking about. First of all, if your ped recommends putting a little cereal in his bottle, do it. This is very common. It is ONLY okay if your ped recommends it though. Whoever that dumb @$$ was that said "every baby deserves to be breastfed" obviously has a screwed up closed mind. Yes… it is best to breastfeed, but sometimes it's not really possible. There are lots of circumstances that some people (like her) don't understand. Don't let idiots like that make you feel bad. Anyway… to answer your question, yes, it can be room temp. There is no reason why you would have to heat it up. It all comes down to the baby's preference. Hope this helps.

You should never put cereal in a baby's bottle! He is far too young to start solids - cereal is a solid, regardless of how you present it! Starting solids so young can lead to digestive problems and food allergies.
