Iv herd that chocolate is bad for dogs and iv herd its not. If it is bad for dogs than why?

yes- it caffeine and cocoa have chemicals in them that can be toxic to dogs. The unfortunate thing is, that there is no way to tell if it will harm your dog until they ingest it and are either fine or get sick and die, so it’ s better to just not even try it.

Even small amounts of Theo bromine, an ingredient in chocolate, can cause vomiting and restlessness in pets. Larger doses can be fatal. While most pet owners expect a dog to develop an upset stomach after eating a large amount of chocolate, few realize its danger or toxic potential.
The lethal dose of Theo bromine depends on the size of the dog and the type of chocolate. Ounce for ounce, baking chocolate has six to nine times as much of the substance as milk chocolate does.

Yes. It basically functions as a poison in their systems. If a dog eats a little bit, it can cause severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea, but too much and it will kill them.

It is bad for them. In some cases, a dog can die from eating it. Something in chocolate is like posion to them.

Ya, but the worst chocolate is that raw bitter powder that is sold in the Hershey’s can. That’s the one you use to make fudge with. That has the highest concentration of what is deadly to dogs. But, all chocolate should be avoided.

Yes, there are enzymes that dogs cannot break down. A little bit will not hurt them, but a lot can kill them.

Yes chocolate is toxic to dogs. Here is a great article explaining why. Also raisins are highly toxic to dogs as well.

in a lot of cases chocolate can give a dog an upset stomach, but in severe cases a lot of it can kill the dog, it is toxic to dogs…my dog loves chocolate and has gotten into cakes and even candy bars and has never had any type of reaction…but this is NOT typical so do not give your dog chocolate to test this…keep chocolate away from it…and omg its “I’ve heard” and “then why”

Chocolate causes vomiting and diarrhea, and can be fatal if given in large amounts.
If you want to give your dog chocolate they do make special chocolate treats for dogs sold at certain pet stores (like three dog bakery, petco, petsmart, etc.)

Cocoa contains the toxic chemical, chocolate has cocoa in it in varying amounts depending on the chocolate. Bakers chocolate is very toxic to dogs, and dark chocolate is a little better. Milk chocolate can take a bit to reach toxic amounts depending ont he size of the dog. White chocolate has next to no cocoa in it (if there is even any), so that is safe in terms of poison.
Small amounts are not harmful, a Hershey’s kiss will not instantly kill a dog. A large amount or eating dark chocolate can have very bad effects though, possibly death.
National Geographic had a neat tool to calculate the amount of chocolate necessary for vomiting, seizures, or death. My computer crashed right after I found it so I won’t post it, but if you feel like looking for it you can.
