Is the word vegetarian a noun or adjective?

I figured both vegetarian and veg@n were adjectives describing ones diet and lifestyle but I just wanted to know for sure!

    They can be both I suppose. My best friend is a vegetarian and she eats vegetarian foods.

    adjective. noun = vegetarianism.

    It depends how you use it:

    ~vegetarian as a noun:
    A vegetarian is a person who only eats vegetables.

    ~vegetarian as an adjective:
    This is a vegetarian dish.

    *vegetarianism is what vegetarians practice

    Timmy is a vegetarian. Noun
    Timmy eats vegetarian meals. Adjective

    They are both. I am a vegan (noun) and I eat vegan (adjective) food and use vegan (adjective) products.

    It can be both!

    Example:
    Julie’s vegetarian dish was a hit at the party. (adj - describing the dish)

    The vegetarian gave her science presentation this morning. (noun)
