my molly had like 20 fry and i look at the anal fin and it looks like they are all females! why is this? and i think i might have breed new mollies because 4 of the fry are orange in front and black in the back. what do you think?

im not sure if you have a new breed, i seem to remember mollies like that in petco, i know there are platys like that but im thinking mollies too. also i had the same issue, i had guppys and mollies in different tanks and ALL the babies from both looked female. i keep the tanks at the same temp and the same ph and stuff. i dont know if it has anything to do with it. although as they got older one looked like a male but then it turned out to be female. i only had one mollie and one guppy live from that bunch but they both are females and are a couple months old. my second batch is a few weeks and they look like they are all female too. not sure what determines if they are going to be male female, i will look it up.

With out seeing the fry myself I cant really judge. How big are they? If they are still tiny then it would be easy to think they are all female. Your 4 different fry may be showing recessive color genes from the mommy or daddy is all for those unless you have more then 1 female and they both popped at the same time. I would be thrilled if my female popped out some tri colored babies. :-) Dont worry if you did end up with just females thoughs I had a friend where that happened to her and her guppy fry seemed to be all girls. Congrates on your new babies!

It is not a problem and it gave birth to females because the female may have breded both bred them together then they would be both male and female.

They may not be old enough to tell the sex yet. Also, fish will be born male or female sometimes for a reason- say if you have 3 females and 1 male in your tank and one gets pregnant. The fry may all turn out to be male to even out the numbers. I read that in a book I have. It’s a way to guarantee continuation of the species. Some fish will change sex for the same reason. I think it is cool that the 4 babies are different. If you have different colors of mollies they may breed with each other sometimes as long as they are the same species of molly. I bought a molly one time that was gold and had red eyes and he would try to mate with the black ones. Enjoy those new babies!!
