Most likely they are Plantans..They are usually fried tho. I also think they might be Chick Peas aka Garbanzo beans. Another round potato like thing could be water chestnuts.

It could be Jicama which is a dense potato-like vegetable more often in Mexican than "Anglo" dishes, or it could be potatoes!
I hesitate to call Taco Johns a Mexican restaurant exactly, but they even have a burrito with chunks of potato, the Potato OLay or something like that. I've only seen the ads
(Stopped there once out of extreme hunger and had a taco. Was so extremely put off by it that I've never gone back. )

I don't know if I have ever seen them in Mexican food, but oriental cuisine uses water chestnuts. They resemble tiny potatoes.

How little? Very little sounds like hominy, which is giant, white corn. Or diced, may be jicama or actually potato.
