potato = carb, even though it is a vegetable. so yes, bad diet choice.

yeah it is too much carbs and not nutritious. all you are getting is sugars. especially everyday in lunch is not good.

The gravy is what makes it bad for a diet.

For a diet, you should pretty much avoid any kind of potato except for baked without any trimmings.

potatoes ok but gravy kills diets.

Since you are eating starch/carbs for lunch, I would try to eat less carbs/starches at dinner and breakfast time. Just make sure your overall diet is balances.
The gravy may need to be replaced with a ‘lighter’ alternative.
I personally am not a fan of mashed potatoes, so I am unsure what else you’d want to put on it besides the “butter spray” thats like 1 calorie a spray?
good luck!

because potatoes are pure starch, there isn’t much nutritional value in peeled, mashed potatoes. If it’s vitamins you are looking for then fry them with the peelings on as the skin of the potato contains most of the vitamins. If you are on a diet trying to lose weight then potatoes are not a good idea.

potatoes are one of the worst because of a lot of starch. my doctor said when dieting, don’t eat nothing white.

No, just skip the butter, gravy or sour cream.
Answer: A small baked potato, about two inches in diameter has about 130 calories. A medium baked potato, about two and one-half to three inches in diameter has about 160 calories. A large baked potato, about three and one-half to four inches in diameter can have about 275 calories.

Trying eating a sweet potato instead. You can cook it in the microwave and mash it up. The nutritional benefits from sweet potatoes are endlesss!

Carbs don't make you fat!!!!!!!!
The type of carbs at the wrong time make you fat!
Excess calories and not enough activity make you fat!
The fat/carb effect has to do with insulin response. The fat in the gravy will slow down the insulin response.
If you eat lunch early then this is not the worst thing you can eat.
Not the best either, but not the worst.
It would be much healthier though to make a pot of real mashed potatoes, preferably skin in, on a Sunday and put it in little Tupperwares for the week. You get more fiber this way.

it all depends on portion size, exercise level, current weight. etc.
I have lost 30 pounds since March….I eat anything I want when want it, but my portions are very small and I ONLY eat when I am HUNGRY.
woof

Yea, those are pretty bad! I would recommend you just have a baked potato if you must have a potato at all and instead of butter use olive oil as a topping which is a lot healthier!

It has so many calories with gravy but potato mash without gravy could be a great substitute. So take out the gravy.
