My mom and I found a small cat, and we don’t know whether or not to feed it milk or cat food. (How old is he?)?

He keeps on meowing after we give him cat food and water. He is about 10 in. long not including his tail. He looks big enough to eat kitten food, but I think he wants milk. What should I do??

Try canned food? Its soft - so he will be able to chew it, and its stinky, so it will appeal to him. Cats tend not to do well with Cows milk - give it sparingly.

you should get kitten food and put water on it to soften it up so it can eat it and put milk to the side so it can choose itself and the more it drinks or eats out of thats the one you should give it. thats what i did

    good luck

Try giving him a little milk first, then try giving him some kitten food. Don’t give him too much milk because it’s not always the best thing.

Take it to the vet. It could have an illness that you don’t know about and can spread to you or other animals in your household. The vet will tell you how old the kitten is and what to feed it.

1st you would not feed him milk, but KMR (Kitten replacement formula). Milk will make him sick.
1nd if you give him wet food (high quality, not with chunks…try ground up like many of the fancy feast varieties) and he can lick and swallow, he can eat wet.

It’s great of you to care for him. You will be rewarded greatly!

he is plenty big enough for dry kitten food. The cats that were born under my house started eating cat food when the were weaned, I never did give them milk.

10 inches long seems old enough to eat what you are giving him. water is better for him. he maybe just wants a lil loving from you. he may be scared. he also might be a stray who is used to being outside. he may be someones pet…..could be anything really. if your going to keep him i would make a trip to the vet to make sure everything is in order. im guessing he just wants a lil loving.

its ok you feed a cat at any age milk BUT!!!!! make sure the milk and water in it… more water than milk… also its better to get powdered milk and add water… sometimes i put little pieces of bread in the milk(WITH WATER) if you do give that cat milk with out water its not healthy for them so MAKE SURE you add WATER… go to a vet to see how old he is…
    GOOD LUCK :D
    Hope i could help

Do both. Buy some milk made specifically for cats (Catsip is one of them out there) as well as some hard kitten food. Keep an eye on what he is eating. While he’ll probably continue to drink the milk even once he no longer needs it (my adult cats like it as a treat), when you notice he’s eating a healthy amount of hard food it’s pretty likely he’s ok with eating that alone. Then just ween him off the milk by giving him less and less each day, and then less and less each week.

Don’t give him real/cows milk though. It’s not good for kittens. The Catsip comes in little milkboxes that aren’t that expensive at all, and can be refridgerated just like regular milk.

Also, if that doesn’t help, you may need to take him to the vet right away instead of waiting a little while. He might be sick, and simply be turned off by food all together.

First of all, you should take him to a Vet so they can look him over and tell you about his approximate age and when to get his baby shots etc.

Never ever give cats cows milk because its hard for them to digest and gives them intestinal problems like belly aches and upset stomachs that would make them throw up. Even though he likes the smell and taste of milk, do not give it to him. They make special cat milk for cats.

If he has teeth, he can eat kitten chow. Always feed kittens Kitten Chow until they turn 1 years old, then switch to Adult Cat Food.

    Good luck!

First off, check the teeth! If it has all the teeth then its old enough to start eating canned food. You may have to water it down a bit to make it easier to eat. You can give cows milk but if you can get it buy the whiskis CAT MILK at the grocery store. Some Shoppers Drug stores carry it too. The cat milk is better for the kitten than cows milk. From the sounds of it the kitten is between 5weeks and 8 weeks old. Try and keep it confined to a small area of your home so it doesn’t get trapped anywhere when it goes exploring. Goodluck

Go to your local pet store. See if they have kitten formula. The kitten formula usually comes in a can. Also, while you’re there, pick up some canned cat food. You need to help it develop its own taste. Then, take it to a vet to see if it has a microchip and all of its annual vaccinations.

Don’t give a cat cow’s milk, it can make them sick. If he really seems determined to not eat hard food try a canned food. If that doesn’t work you can buy special animal milk that will be easier on his tummy. I believe Walmart carries animal milk in their pet care section.
