Question about fishing rods?

June 21st, 2008 · 5 Comments

I recently went boating with my family. We decided to take our fishing gear with us and try to do a little fishing. I was fishing on shore and I had my line pulled out of the water. I had picked my rod up by the weakest point without thinking and it broke. My brother-in-law told me not to throw away the undamaged piece and said that I could buy a replacement for it. It's a Shakespeare Inspinity rod/reel combo that was inexpensive. I was wondering if I could buy a new section to replace the broken one and if I can where I might be able to find it.

depending on where you broke the rod, you can buy a rod tip replacement kit for pretty cheap. You can buy these at bass pro shops or gander mountain, maybe even cabela's. If you broke the rod further down than the tip, you will have to buy a new rod, though you will be lucky if BPS has the parts to put it back together.

If you bought it at Academy, they will take it back and give you a new one. I use G.Loomis rods. If one ever breaks they replace it free.

Depending on how much you paid for the rod, it may be better to simply buy another one. Oftentimes buying spare parts is more expensive than an entirely new rod.

You should be able to buy a new section at shakespeare's website. It might be just as much to get a new rod.Check it out and see.

Manufacturers do not offer replacement parts for fishing rods. You cannot purchase a replacement tip.

Repairing the tip is probably going to cost as much as buying an inexpensive replacement rod, and is not going to give you as good a sevice as a new rod.
