Rice Cereal-How did your first time go?

October 4th, 2008 · 9 Comments

Since my little guy is 4 months old this coming Friday I wanted to try some rice cereal today just to see how it went. It went okay…he took about 10 spoon fulls-dribbled some out. It was cute.

How did your first time go? How long did it take your little one to get the hang of it?

If all you have is nasty remarks about waiting until 6 months then can it…his doctor said this was fine.
joy4life- that is always my point…we all started early and nothing bd happened t us all. 8 0 )
thanks all for sharing and for the tips! I am waiting until his appointment 10/6 to ask about adding anything else…maybe by then he'll gobble up the cereal too.

My daughter loved it when we first fed her cereal! Forget nasty comments, some babies are ready for it earlier. My nephew was eating so much no amount of formula or breast milk was keeping up.

it might take him another month or two to get the hang of it. you have to be patient with this sort of thing. keep trying, and he’ll eventually get the idea. good luck! :)

It went well with my first son. He got the hang of it in a week. you won’t get any guff from me about starting early with cereal. I started way earlier than you. I would add some to my sons bottle at night at about 6 weeks. Our parents did it, and we are fine. and my son turned out okay. He slept through the night because he was full. So I had great success. Good luck.

My daughter loved rice ceareal and she was definitely ready for it. I started her at 4 months and she had no trouble getting it off the spoon or swallowing it.

My little guy hated it and still will not eat it.

I started him at 6 months and he is 8 months now.

I keep trying and he keeps spitting it out, lol

my daughter was ready for it but she did not eat very much the first few weeks, about 2 baby spoonfuls 1-2 times a day a few times a week. we realized that she didn’t really like the cereal and switched over to veggies and she gobbled those right up.

Hey I also gave both of my girls rice at about 4 months. I think that the best way is a little in a bottle for a baby that young cause they still have a strong sucking and repel reflex…this means that if they dont suck it they kind of spit it out. My rule of thumb to not mix it too think is for every 2 ounces formula, i put in a half tsp of rice cereal. It will also help him stay fuller at night and poss. sleep better. and who cant use a better night sleep. Just watch that he doesnt get constipated. and if he does, a little bit of prune juice should do the trick ( gerber baby juice not the adult kind it is too strong)
