I am making baked macaroni and cheese for 70 people and I was told that being I am baking it for an hour I do not need to boil my pasta. The lady told me that it would cook itself in the oven. I usually make a cheese sauce with pet milk, velveta cheese, cheese wiz, and butter. then I layer the top of it with sliced american cheese. I would love to just bake it because well thats a lot of macaroni to boil! However I don’t want to mess up the whole pan.

I would boil the macs first. I always do when I make mine and it goes in the oven at the end too. It shouldn’t have to bake for a whole hour either. Less oven on time in the summer is better.

I would double the amount of milk and leave the cheese slices off the top until the last 10 minutes or so. Bake in a tightly covered pan, adding more liquid as necessary. Uncover and add the cheese slices the last ten minutes.

i wouldn’t jst bake it being that you dont have a lot of liquid in the pan it might dry out if i was going to do it i would try it in a small batch first but you could just boil the pasta a little to get it started thats what i do for lasagna.

if you did boil it, then you wouldn’t need to boil it all the way done, but usually w/ baked pastas you can do them completely uncooked, but you need to make sure that you have enough liquid in your sauce that it will properly cook the pasta all the way through. Whenever I do baked pastas, I usually boil all mine mix it all together w/ sauce, make sure it’s seasoned well and then put in a baking pan add my cheese to the top and just bake till cheese is brown, so it looked like it was baked the whole time. This will ensure a perfect dish.
Hope this helped.

its up to you. you have to choose what you wanna do, if you wanna boil it, boil it, if you wanna just bake it, bake it.
trust me, itll be easier.
at least you tried you best.
i once cooked dinner and messed the pasta up, (i didnt tell the people of course!) and they asked me what kind of sauce i used. i asked them why, they told me it was YUMMy and tasty! i still make it up to now. i call it ’spagesto with chicken’

I would boil it but just half the time…just to give the noodles a start to soften up.

If it is baking for an hour, it shouldn’t need to be boiled first. Make a test pan real quick and see what happens.
Good luck!

That’s a lot of macaroni for sure! I always partially boil my macaroni for Mac & Cheese, but not for lasagna (juicier sauce). Besides, if you’re making it for that many people; why try to do it differently? What will you do if the macaroni is still too “firm”?

If you’re not going to boil the mac I would just increase the amount of milk. You want to make sure it has enough liquid to soak up. An hour should be plenty of time to get the mac cooked without boiling it. This method will probably give you a firmer mac n cheese. You can also cover it for part of the cooking time so you don’t lose too much moisture. I personally don’t like my noodles to be too soft so this is how I make my lasagna and mac n cheese.

You know, I don’t boil lasagna noodles, but just soften them in a pitcher of hot tap water. Maybe you could do that w/ your macaroni, just to give them a head start.
