Similarity between Esau selling his birthright for mess of pottage (stew) to those who break God’s laws?

Just curious as to your opinion. If we knew what God had in store for us in the long run, say 20 years from now, would we be a little kinder and more reverent and respectful of spiritual things?

      Attitude.

The birthright was a sacred priviledge for the firstborn son from God.

Christians have the priviledge of having a relationship with God thanks to Jesus Christ's ransom sacrifice.

If we view that sacrifice as of little value and go back to willful sin, then we are acting just as Esau did- tossing away a valuable thing for a mere bowl of soup. (Hebrews 12:12-16)

I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

What does beef stew have to do with religion?

Esau was a man concerned with the things of the “here and now”. He was an “earthy” man.

Jacob was a clean shaven man and had his eye on the future promise.

Which one was worldly, which one was spiritual?

      Nice comparison!

Some do not regard what is Holy from what is common. And man is there a price to pay!

      Nice Question!

we sold our birthright for flesh (lust).

      Selfishness

Esau lacked the appreciation for the gift of his birthright.

People today lack the appreciation for God's standards.

In both cases selfishness is at the root.

This is a warning to us. We must avoid ever losing the fear of God and becoming a materialist like Esau, who sought only to satisfy his fleshly desires.—Genesis 26:34, 35; 27:41; Hebrews 12:16.

This does require the assumption that God is actually doing anything which affects us in any way. And if we knew that this was the case, and knew what he was planning in 20 years time (impling that it was pre-determined) then I guess the whole ‘free will’ thing takes a bit of a knock.

well it says in Romans that no one is righteous not even one and that we have all fallen short off the glory of god. So there isnt anyone that has followed gods law. it also says that if you break the law one time you are guilty of breaking it all. god knew this so he sent his son to save us. he died for us so we can go to heaven. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is lord and believe in your heart god raised him from the dead you will be saved.

watch this video it should help.

That,s the problem, people do not believe in God and they can not
comprehend what God has instore for his people,,a lot would sell
their soul,s for what ever because they do not think it will live on
but that,s where the deception of satan come,s in,,they believe the
lie that Satan had told them and rejected what God has offered.

How many times should I forgive my brother ? 70×7 was the answer. Jesus said to the woman nobody here condemns you and neither do I. O.K. It would be very hypocritical for Him not to forgive if he tells us to. Thank God for Grace.

But we do know what Jehovah God has in store for us. We just don’t know when that day will come, not even Jesus. Consider the following.

      Daniel 2:44
And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite.

      Revelation 21:4
And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

      John 17:3
This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.

      James 4:13-14
Come, now, you who say: “Today or tomorrow we will journey to this city and will spend a year there, and we will engage in business and make profits,”
14 whereas you do not know what your life will be tomorrow

      Mark 13:32
“Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father.

Our love for God should motivate us to love our fellow man everyday and preach the good news of God’s kingdom to all.

I heard once that Father has 3 answers–

      a) Yes, gladly!
      b) Not yet, have patience.
      c) No- I have something much better in store for you.

In looking at these three answers, they’re all about Him blessing us. He wants to bless us so much!!

Sometimes we ask for something He already plans to and want to give us, so the answer is, “Yes, I’ll gladly give this to you!”

Sometimes we ask a little to early, so Father has to tell us to be patient for a little longer.

And sometimes in our human imperfection, we ask for something that will only bring us sorrow, and He says, “No, I won’t give you that thing that you want… I have something so much better in store.”

And then sometimes, we insist and demand to have the thing that will harm us. Sometimes He gives in, “Ok, but you’re not going to like how this turns out…” We take what we want, enjoy it for a time, and eventually realize that He was right…

Sometimes, the humble-ness of saying, “nevertheless, Thy will be done,” is a sacrifice in and of itself. It is for me!
