I get my milk at Trader Joe's and I was wondering:

Does anyone know if there milk for from cows raised in factory farms or from free range cows (I don't know the terminology for cows).

Thanks!

Look at the carton - if it comes from free range cows, they will brag about it. If they don't say either way, you can assume they're factory farmed.

I am certain that if they used milk from free range cows that they would have it marked on the label. Many companies will claim this if that is the case but especially Trader Joes. They take great pride in not only complying with federal requirements for labeling but also to inform us of what we want to know about their products too.

there are no free-range cows–your thinking chickens…anyways, that is a complete misnomer…a free-range bird could spend as little as 10 mins every couple hours outside a coop and given that label.

the above link explains some of the food labeling "lies" that exist…quite interesting.
