Well.. Alexander Hamilton didn’t have a role in the Whiskey Rebellion. George Washington was president at the time of the Rebellion. Government decided to put a tax on whiskey. Frontiersmen, known as “whiskey rebels” chose not to pay the tax on the whiskey.
Washington went over, with his troops and gave them the option to either pay the tax and be pardoned of their crime, or go to jail. Most frontiersmen chose to comply with Washington’s threat and pay the tax.
Hamilton led troops into Pennsylvania to put down the rebellion. This marked the first time under the new United States Constitution that the federal government used military force to exert authority over the nation’s citizens. The military suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion set a precedent that U.S. citizens who wished to change the law had to do so peacefully through constitutional means; otherwise, the government would meet any threats to disturb the status quo with force.
