I'm eating cotton candy, and when I lick it, everyone knows how it melts, right? What exactly is happening? Where is all my sugar going?
Does this make less sugar?

The sugar is dissolving on your tongue. When sugar comes in contact with a warmer liquid (Like your saliva) it will dissolve, or melt!

I believe cotton candy is basically blown up sugar. when you lick it (i.e. it becomes wet) the sugar disolves (i.e. the sweet taste). The sugar is going inside your mouth (dissolved).

Cotton candy is sugar that has basically been stretched out. When the saliva from your mouth hits it, the sugar dissolves and compresses. You are turning it back to it's original compressed state. When you keep it in your mouth long enough it turns to liquid, just like when you mix it with tea or whatever, because it dissolves.

All cotton candy is just plain sugar. It's the same as eating a spoonful of suger, it just dissolves.

      It's dissolving and shrinking/compacting down.
      There's not less sugar.
It's just that it's all dissolved on your tongue, into your saliva.

the same amount of sugar is there, it just shrinks when in contact with your saliva. into a yummy sweet taste =]
