Which of the following items do you think of eating a tomato with-
Apples, Oranges, Figs, Nuts, & Pineapples
or
Lettuce/salds?
My guess is also that the average person views tomatos more as a vegetable than as a fruit!

in my opinion, tomatoes are like pluto:
science classifies them as one thing NOW, but everyone was raised being told they were something differnt.
tomatoes are fruit, but my parents always told me they were veggies.
pluto's not a planet, but my elemntary teachers told me it was.
it's just convention, i guess.

they don't have tomatoes in the vegetable section, they are in the section with the pasta sauce and pizza sauce and further on down the aisle is the pasta, its been that way in every grocery store i have ever been in and i have been shopping and cooking for over thirty years, they are also in the produce section, but both fruits and veggies are produce, so, what is your question again??

because we generally think of tomatoes as vegetables.

I have always wondered the same thing!! And I came to this conclusion: For the same reason they have peanuts in the nuts section, even though, they're a legume!!!!! They're CRAZY!!!:P

I have always thought of tomatoes as vegetables and just because people want to change them to fruits, doesn't make it so. Those tomatoes are staying with the cucumbers and that's that. : )

Because forever, tomatoes have been put with the other veggies, and are usually eaten in a veggie salad. Fruit,on the other hand , can be used for a dessert. No one I know would mix a fruit salad, with a tomatoe. I think the tomatoe should be reclassified as a veggie.
