I don't think that Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food. There are days where I am not sure if it is authentic food or not.

Taco bell is no more Mexican, than Mcdonalds is american, and most chinese places are "chinese"

Taco Bell? Mass-produced junk in my sincere opinion. You should try Old El Paso. Far better quality. Or if you want the real McCoy, go to Mexico and check it out there.

I am sure everyone is aware that it's not authentic, however it is different from all the burgers at every other fast food joint.

It's not, it's called Tex-Mex. But it is my favorite kind of Mexican food. I think the authentic stuff is NASTY!

any person of education or experiance knows ,,that it is a rip off of the stuff cowboys from south west ate ,in the saddle ,as they worked, and the cook was usually a texan or a texacan as they knew the mexicans from tehas,, and soo the recipes had to be simple and easy to eat fast in the saddle,, with mostly dried ingrediants that stored well, like beans and peppers and onions and flour and corn dry of course for masa ,,adios

My friends call it Americanized Mexican, but we're all aware it's not "real" Mexican. I've introduced many of my friends to authentic Mexican (real burritos, taquitos, arroz con pollo, etc.), and the reaction is almost always the same: "Wow, I knew Taco Bell wasn't real Mexican, but this is DIFFERENT!"
I think a lot of people just aren't aware of the magnitude of the difference - most of my friends were shocked to find that sour cream and tomatoes weren't standard Mexican fare, but were intrigued by the many kinds of Mexican salsa and dip that are near-impossible to find here.
I'd suggest beginning in your own circle if you'd like to educate people, but do it nicely. For example, when I wanted to introduce a chicken-and-rice stew (made by one of my mother's Puerto Rican friends) to my classmates, I waited until we had a class party, and then asked my mother to make the recipe. I brought it in, and many people came back for seconds and asked for the recipe. Most of them had no idea it wasn't "American" food, and when I told them of its origins, several decided to look up other Puerto Rican recipes online. I also got to giggle to myself a little when four of them came to me the next day and asked where to buy cilantro.

I met a very ignorant woman a few years back. She said Spain was in Mexico City .She ate Spanish Rice (paella), had red wine, saw a bull fight and everyone spoke Spanish. So I guess she was right . She was there . She would know , woulldn't she ? AUGH !!(i'm a Spaniard) but people think I'm from Mexico .Same thing, they say !
I know how you feel. Why are Americans so ignorant about the world around them ? They come up here to Canada and are surprised it's a real country with people and cities. We even have electricity now ! !They want authentic Canadian food and ask for stupid things like Beaver and Moose! Sorry, but it's all Tacky-Bell and McDonalds up here too !
